SAFe 6.0 vs. LeSS: Which Agile Framework Fits Your Organisation?

Alexander Roland Ramseier15 March 20268 min read

SAFe 6.0 and LeSS are the two dominant frameworks for agile scaling. But which one is right for your organisation? An honest comparison from practice.

Two Philosophies – One Goal

When organisations grow beyond the team level and want to bring agility to the entire organisation, they inevitably face the question: SAFe 6.0 or LeSS? Both frameworks share the same goal – agility at scale – yet their philosophies, structures and use cases could hardly be more different.

SAFe 6.0 – Structure as Strength

The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) in version 6.0 is the world's most widely adopted scaling framework. It provides a comprehensive, prescriptive structure with clearly defined roles, artefacts and cadence cycles.

LeSS – Less is More

Large-Scale Scrum (LeSS) takes the opposite approach: minimal structure, maximum agility. LeSS is essentially Scrum applied across multiple teams working on a single product.

The Decisive Factor: Organisational Culture

In my practice as a SAFe-certified coach and LeSS practitioner, I have learned: The best framework is the one your organisation can truly live by.
